About the People

The Reverend Canon Trudy Lebans (aka Rev. Canon Gertrude) is our Priest-in-Charge. She is a poet, a grand/mother, a partner, an Anglican priest, a theologian. She has worked as a facilitator of creative, intergenerational, and educational experiences across Canada for the past 35+ years,  publishing several books on liturgy, ministry, theology, and poetry.

The Reverend Canon Fran Darlington (Honorary Assistant Priest)  After life as the wife/partner of a dairy farmer/U. of G. professor/banker, and mother of two (now grandmother of four), a teaching career, and six years of full-time university and seminary studies, Fran was ordained Deacon in 1992 and Priest in 1993, for the Diocese of Niagara. As Rector or Interim Priest, she has ministered to congregations in 10 churches of our Diocese, and now enjoys a gentler pace as Honorary Assistant Priest at The Church of the Apostles (St. James & St. Matthias.)

Denise Lowe (People’s Warden) is a motivational speaker, author and retired high school teacher. She is married to Derryck and is proud mom to Julia and Lysa. Denise has been a member of this parish for over 20 years. Her favourite bible verses are Philippians 4:13 and Micah 6:8.

Pat Sproat  (Deputy People’s Warden) has been a  member of The Church of the Apostles  for over 27 years. She is a proud mother of two, Caitlin and Jackson. Pat has been an elementary school teacher for 36 years. and says “as a new warden I am honoured to be in service to MattJam.”

David Maksymchuk (Rector’s Warden)  and his wife Cecylia have been members at this church for 12 years. David says that he became a warden to get more involved in the church and its activities. In his spare time he likes to work around the house, fly model airplanes, and golf.

Judy Greenhill is our friendly and helpful Rental Coordinator. She also sings in our choir and is always ready to lend a helping hand when needed.

Robert Foote has been the much loved organist and choir director for 40 years. His knowledge and skill with our Casavant organ and his dedication to the choir and to the people of St. James & St. Matthias is well known to all. His hidden talent is encouraging those who think they have no voice.

Owen Bloomfield is the Music Director for the Sunday 9:15 am Contemporary Family Service, prior to which he  was Music Director at St. Matthias between 2002 and 2018.  He has a strong dedication to congregational singing and is comfortable in contemporary, traditional and international music for church while also adapting secular music for sacred spaces. Owen has a MMus in Composition from the University of British Columbia and BMus from Wilfrid Laurier University.  He runs a busy studio teaching piano, theory and composition.  He has written music for a variety of soloists and ensembles with his music being performed as far away as Whitehorse, Honolulu and Amsterdam as well as locally and in the church services.  He is a member of the Canadian League of Composers, an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre  and a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association.

 

Deb Bowerman is our thurifer who swings “the smoke” with remarkable grace. She also ensures that the building is always clean and ready for company.

Wendy Woodhouse (Website Manager) has been an active member of the parish  for over 20 years.
